Greetings! We're planning to start season two of This Week in CoPress, our weekly podcast about technology, the Web and innovation as they relate to college media.

Vanessa Bezic, a new member of the CoPress team, and I will be cohosting the weekly show. We're planning to stream it live every Sunday at 6 ET/3 PT — if that time sounds good to everyone.

The new season will feature a discussion-based format instead of traditional interviews (think of This Week in Tech, which we're not affiliated with in any way).

The first episode will be a roundtable about projects student news organizations have worked on during the summer. And, because of the timing, we'll also discuss some general CoPress news to get things rolling. We'll also look ahead to the coming school year.

One format for the new season I've envisioned would break the podcast into thirds:

  1. Newsy discussion about college media/technolgy/Web cross-section
  2. In-depth conversation on a specific topic
  3. Practial advice from guests that you can implement in your newsroom (should this be big, small, medium or a mix?)

What do you think?

Would you be interested in participating or calling in (like a radio show!)? Know someone who would? Let us know below! Sharing this post is caring.

If no one else is going to respond to your post, I think it sounds great. Thirty minutes would be the perfect length, and I think we should make an attempt at bringing new people on each week. Extend our engagement efforts, you know. In terms of topics, there are a whole number of things we can talk about including the ol' technology gig, but also "social media" policies for reporters, ideas for real-life events that newspapers could put on, strategies for finding the right talent for your organization, and so on.

In fact, I really like that ideas for events topic idea. Have the online interaction lead to offline interaction.

Another idea is to have a discussion about training community members to do "acts of journalism" for you, and figuring out the best way to manage their contributions, etc.
