| | Summer break offers a unique opportunity for college media, so we ask: Do you plan to redesign or in any other way redo your college news site this summer? If so, please explain. Feel free to link to any related posts if you've blogged about this on your personal site. | |

| | We're taking a look at making some modifications to our current system (www.connect2mason.com), including implementing advertising. We're also taking a look at WordPress MU. | |

I'll be redesigning our category pages at the Whitman Pioneer and will also be working on some features to stimulate more community involvement with the site. Right now our category pages are pretty standard and frankly boring so I'll be working on adding some more visual elements to them. I'll also be working on creating some more coherent ad space so that we can start generating at least a little bit of revenue. For anyone interested I'd love to organize some conference calls this summer so that we can all collaborate on site (re)designs and share what we've all found to work/not work. Read more about what I'm thinking of here. Edit: For some reason the hyperlink tool is broken, so here's the links: Whitman Pioneer: http://www.whitmanpioneer.com/ My blog post: http://www.andrewspittle.net/2…..aboration/ | Andrew – andrew@copress.org – CoPress Hosting Director – http://www.andrewspittle.net |

| | We'll be doing a ton of work this summer. Whether we'll actually redesign the website to highlight the changes is TBD but there will be a lot of changes to FIUSM.com as we work on solidifying our open source CMS and expanding our site. |

Be careful with WordPress MU. It's still on Wp 2.6.5, and no sign of when it will be updated. Also: one of the key benefits, plugins across blogs, is clunky. Having run a blog network on WPMU, I'd have to say, we made the wrong choice. It would have been much easier to run the whole thing off one blog, and use categories to separate out the posts in the template. | |

The College Heights Herald is also looking to redesign, hopefully through WordPress in some capacity. It has been on the table for some time, but we're finally getting down to business and getting things done. Here's a few thoughts on what we're trying to do on my own blog. |
