| | The question this week comes from Greg: what are your organization's plans and goals for your website for the rest of the semester? Are you looking to increase online readership numbers, launch blogs, or add functionality to your site? What are the specifics? | |

| | In no particular order: - Publish2 integration
- getting at least a few people from the newsroom on Twitter
- finishing the site's redesign (finishing touches on photos, captions, etc.)
- working with the Opinion writers to set up blogs for them to post to
- modifying the print edition to contain information about what can be found online
That's probably more than we'll actually get done, but that's at least the list that I'm working from. | Andrew – andrew@copress.org – CoPress Hosting Director – http://www.andrewspittle.net |

| | Wow, there's quite a bit we want to do. I'll read off one A5 list: - Progress 'Pages' restructure and launch 'Editor's Blog' page – don't settle for a less-than-best template either
- Re-write 'About' page with personality in mind – photos, 'who's who' etc.
- Work on cross-promotion of our student-run University radio station – perhaps an app on the homepage, or even its own separate page?
- Plan out major elements of homepage on paper – look for a theme that fits
- Aaarrrgh, this one's driving me mad . . . - work out how to have the LastFM app ONLY on the Music section, NOT as a homepage widget!
- Print more posters for on-campus advertising/recruiting
- Greater attention to our online community – MORE CONVERSATION, perhaps recruit a 'community manager' to maintain Facebook page, Twitter account etc.
- Look at categories for Student Media Awards 2009

There's usually a few more add themselves to the list everyday. InJournalism is our student-run online magazine (of University of Sunderland, UK), have a look and recommend me some things! Josh |

| | Good question! - Work with photo editor to get more/better photos online (right now I just sort of do all the Photoshop and such myself, though I'm terrible at it)
- Work with the photo editor to program an Adobe ImageReady droplet to (1) Resize an iamge to 800×600 (2) lower the qualtiy slightly and (3) add a watermark.
- Work on facebook intergration and set up a facebook fan page
- Work with web team (aka myself and a helper of mine) to figure out what we want the site to look like, for real. (The current design is just a modified template… I want to make a real design)
- Work on adding a classifieds section to the site, and integrate it with paypal
- Add a photo browser/buying application, for people to browse and buy our photos online (anyone know any good apps?)
And that's about it. This summer I'll be doing a complete redesign and re-work of everything, possibly switching from WP to WPMU to allow blogs to be better integrated. | Webmaster

| | My plans for the Vanguard's site this term: - Adjust the color/style scheme somewhat–still not happy with the feel of the site
- Implement our "Itinerate" sub section. PSU is a commuter school, so to help foster and support our community style, we're working on a section of the site where cyclists/mass transit riders/auto commuters can all get useful and interesting information and share tips/ideas.
- Work on a community forum that can survive being transferred from CollegePublisher over to a different platform when we inevitably ditch CP.

| | I no longer am full time staff at The Daily Orange, but in my consultant like roll, I'd like to see: - Moving off College Publisher to a WordPress (CoPress!) platform with the eventual intention to go to a more custom built CMS (Populous?)
- Improving the quality of the blogging network. Our Sports dept, does blogs very well, but they still need to do simple things like tagging articles, etc…
- Get the Daily Orange Twitter feed to be personal, instead of just an RSS feed.

The publication I'm currently leading web development for is pushing to an online-only format, so most of my activities are centred around making the changes necessary for that push. - Basic redesign of the layout to allow for more frequent updating of content (previously expected at once per term)
- Implement a jQuery gallery for better presentation of images
- Writing a multimedia widget
- Implementing a content submission form
- Publicizing the site, primarily through Facebook
- Priming and releasing a beta of the MyPublisher plugin that the site is using for archiving
- And given time, looking into creating a plugin that allows for a better way to assign authors that would somewhat solve this problem (I have initial ideas fleshed out, but needs some work to work around the way WordPress assigns authors to posts)

We'd like to redo our classifieds section similar to what I think jowe has in mind; right now we simply copy and paste the classifieds that are in our print edition. There's been talk on a photo buying app also like what jowe mentioned, but I don't know how likely that is to happen. I've also got a couple of replies to ideas in other posts here; hopefully they're helpful. @Josh: You mentioned cross-promotion with your university's radio station, and we've recently started doing something like that with our student TV station: They produce short highlight videos after some of the basketball games, and we run them as videos on our site alongside our coverage of those games. (We'll almost certainly start doing this during football season whenever that starts back up, too.) In exchange, they can run some of our news articles on their site to go with some of their coverage, and each outlet links back to the other whenever this happens. If the radio station you're talking about is interested, maybe you could work on a similar arrangement? (Run a couple of their shows as podcasts, link to clips that have to do with coverage you're working on, etc.?) Alternatively, have some sort of app on your site about upcoming shows on that station or something similar? @mo: You mentioned putting together a jQuery image gallery; we've had good luck with Easy Slider. Here's an example on our site. |
