Are there any resources for campus online only/magazine publications? I work on an online niche arts, entertainment and culture website at Howard University and while there are quite a few resources (like Copress!) for newspapers, I haven't stumbled upon any substantial ones for magazines, let alone one in the arts.

One thing on our minds is how to create a landing page (that maintains the style of our theme) with a main image and article on general idea of the package and excerpts to the different articles and multimedia within it. I assume it involves creating a page template but I have limited coding knowledge and don't know where to start. Any plugins to help with packaging or templates?

Also, despite different coding and plugin attempts, pagination within posts has been nearly impossible.

Great question! Although CoPress does work with a number of student newspapers, we're also working with several campus magazines across the country, including The Fine Print, Buzzsaw Magazine, and American Way of Life Magazine. I'll pass along your questions to them to see if they have any input.

In regards to creating a landing page, do you want this on the homepage of your website or is this a landing page for a specific issue that lives off the homepage? If it's the homepage, you can actually make a custom layout with HTML/CSS and basic PHP by creating or editing the home.php file in your WordPress theme. This file dictates the display of your homepage. Similarly, if you want to do a custom layout for a page, you can create a custom page template in WordPress.

Do you have a mockup of what you want it to look like? I think we could give better feedback and input if we had a better sense of what you're trying to do.

There's a couple different approaches toward pagination in WordPress that I've found to work. Again, a mockup (even if it's a rough, hand drawn sketch) would be great to see because it'd allow me to give you a better answer on what would work best.

There are multiple approaches to your project.

For one thing, you could coordinate a magazine theme to focus on the issue at hand using custom fields. For example, you can create a custom field date, and have it valued by month. If the month in post corresponds to the current month, it will show on the front page. You cann also make an archive page which will only show posts based on a specific month, so it will archive like a magazine.

Another thing is that there are "series" plugins out there that does create a field to combine "issues" or categories of each issue which would combine those posts:

The custom fields route seems the best but not easiest. The plugin route seems the easiest, and it may work for you. So many ways to go about this.
