Before I graduate, our new developer (Michael Shedd) and web editor (Megan Hassler) want to do a slight design revamp. As we get more content, our sidebar is getting disgustingly cluttered and the page just keeps scrolling. We like StudLife.com's concept for the featured stories and a rotating footer. Here's a mockup of some of their ideas. Feedback would be splendid http://www.flickr.com/photos/l…..1/sizes/l/
Here's some feedback we've already received: Looks good. I'm happy to see that it addresses a concern — that the featured content slideshow doesn't always give the viewer the impression that there's anything new on the site. Sidebar/thumbnails are a good fix.
I really liked the shortened layout and the contrasting green. There's just something about the masthead that's not appealing to me. The green kind of washes out the clean MD logo the way it is right now. I also really like the new picture/sidebar. But it's almost the same size as that Travellodge ad and I'm not sure exactly where to look when I first log on. | |

| | I like it, the more varied background colors for different sections make it a lot easier to read. I like the prominence of the social media icons in the current version though, it seems a shame to make them so small. Overall though, decreasing the amount of text and increasing the amount of media looks good. The shorter design also looks like it would create more traffic to the content just by pushing more of it closer to the top. | |

| | This is defintely very nice. I have a similar thing going on at the westerngazette.ca with the wrap-around boxes. You might consider adding a shadow to it to emphasize the 3D aspects (though the only way I could do that easily was with a heavy PNG). One drawback I noticed is the text container has to be a little narrower than with the wrap-around. Definitely digging the colour scheme and dark gray at the bottom. What plugin are you going to use for the new slider? | I'm a news editor and the web editor for Canada's only daily student newspaper, the Gazette, at the University of Western Ontario. www.westerngazette.ca |

| | I like how the top green banner utilizes the whole space of the page! | |

| | I really like the direction you're going. Adding more color while keeping the design clean really makes the site more interesting, and I think so far you're striking a good balance. I especially like the wrap around function. | |
