| | Does any one know of a good photo gallery plug in for WordPress? Here are some requirements: 1. Can't be from flickr or other photo hosting company. We don't want to deal with any copyright/sharing issues. 2. Should be easy interface, ideal to have the ability to ad some basic text and titles. 3. Uploading through the main blog dashboard interface, not via FTP. We have NexGen installed and while it seems very powerful, the user interface is not very – well, user friendly. It gets confusing and the staff ends up not using it. We also have Soundslides but the integration seems lacking and last I looked, it appeared Soundslides stopped working on their WordPress plugin, which requires FTP if I recall correctly. |

| | Hey Brad, So I just did a little experiment. WordPress allows you to upload images to posts/pages and embed them as a gallery (without using a plugin). So, you'd make a new page or post, upload multiple images, then click "Save all." A new tab will appear called "Gallery," which is embeddable (see a sample of an embedded gallery here). You can set the thumbnails to link to the full-sized images. With lightbox installed, this could look pretty slick. (The Mustang Daily has a similar feature here, but it's a Flickr gallery).
To add more photos to the gallery, you can simply upload more photos to the post/page. You can customize the thumbnail size and number of thumbnails per column, etc. From my observations, users prefer galleries like this that they can thumb through images at their own pace rather than something like soundslides that has a controlled pace. It's not the perfect solution, but it's the best I could come up with to meet your criteria. This seems like it could be a great opportunity for someone from the CoPress community to step up and develop a good image gallery plugin, since there are no great ones out there. Good luck. | |

| | Lauren – thank you for the quick reply! The gallery option included in WordPress might be a good default to fall back on if we can't find another option. I will play with it and see what else it can do. So another thing I was thinking about along the lines of a photo gallery plugin – do any of you know of a way to take in user generated photos? In this case, using something like Flickr I would be fine. The photos aren't ours anyway, so having them shared and we can print/use them as needed is all I care about. |

| | Hi Brad – We use a similar workflow at the Whitman Pioneer. Using the built in gallery function and a lightbox plugin we're able to create fairly smooth looking galleries really easily. The plugin we use is Lightbox Gallery which can be found here: http://wpgogo.com/development/lightbox-gallery.html I'm sure there's better image gallery functions out there but the ease of using what WP has built in is great in my opinion. | Andrew – andrew@copress.org – CoPress Hosting Director – http://www.andrewspittle.net |

| | I use galleria WP on our site. It integrates with the built-in gallery feature on wordpress. Here is an example: Men's basketball gallery Hope that helps, it's the best I've found so far that doesn't use a lightbox. I've never been a huge fan of lightboxes and this is a great alternative. |
