Ok, so I'm curious to know how some of you have approached 'special sections' for your websites.

For example, this week, we have a special fashion issue. The only way I see to go about it right now is creating a new section titled "Fashion," and just deleted it after its run its course.

But I guess what I'm looking for it a more bombastic way to promote the special section. Something that could circulate in the media slider and direct readers to a different page with all the fashion articles listed.

Thoughts?

I would suggest using pages. It would be a little more work, but it would leave a more lasting product, and as far as I know you could insert the page into the slider.

I concur with the pages concept. The Mustang Daily has experimented with this a little bit, which you can see here:

Our developer is working on special pages for H1N1 and Michal Pollan at the moment. You could indeed put a house ad on the front page or the sidebar of your site to tease to these sections.

I'd suggest checking out this post that CoPress did as a design workshop over the summer (it helped our web editor a lot):

http://www.copress.org/2009/07…..-features/ It's all about special sections!

Also, I wouldn't suggest deleting it after the topic has run its course. I'd leave the page active, but just remove the direct link from the homepage.

As usual, great suggestions everyone. And if you guys were in Austin this last weekend I hope you had as much fun as I did!
