The Daily Orange serves the community around Syracuse University in upstate New York. Founded in 1903 and declaring its independence in 1973, it incorporated as a non-profit 501c3 in 1995. The DO publishes Monday through Thursday in print and Friday, online.

Staff
The in-house staff consists of around 30 student editorial employees, including the editor in chief. Editorial staff is broken into departments: Feature, News, Sports, Presentation, Photo, Art, Opinion, Management, and Evolution. The editorial staff usually comes into work around 7:00pm each day, and works till midnight or later. These student editors receive a weekly stipend of roughly $100 (varies by experience and position). Writers, photographers, and columnists are not paid.
The Daily Orange also employees a full time business manager and 10 ad reps who staff the office during the day.

The website was launched in late 2001 on College Publisher, and has remained on that platform with many redesigns. The paper also maintains a very active sports blog that employees video and beat bloggers to cover Syracuse Sports.

Blog Network
The daily orange hosts a WordpressMU blog network. Started for the sports department it has expanded to feature and will eventually include opinion and photo. TODO: expand this section

sports.dailyorange.com is the launching point for the three primary blogs in the sports network Hoops, Lax, and Football. Each of these is maintained by the 3 beat writers of the sport. Other sports are posted on the main sports blog. Video is uploaded and posted via blip.tv.
